As of today, AutoSock for passenger cars below 3,5t is officially recognized as a legal alternative to metallic snow chains by Italian road authorities. The Circular Prot. N. 35611 of October 27th, 2022, published by the Ministry of the Interior establishes the possibility of using snow socks as long as they comply with the UNI EN 16662-1: 2020 standard. There will be no fines for using traction devices that fulfil the requirements of this new European standard.

Circular Prot. N. 35611 is a draft decree, whose final release is expected no earlier than January 2nd, 2023. Independently of the final approval, the circular states that snow socks may be legitimately used if they comply with the UNI EN 16662-1: 2020 with immediate effect.

What does this mean for old and new AutoSock products?

All currently offered AutoSock for passenger car sizes do meet the requirements of EN16662-1:2020.
